The only thing better than navigating a swan-shaped pedal boat in the heart of Los Angeles is navigating an illuminated swan-shaped pedal boat in the heart of Los Angeles! Who says LA doesn’t have lakes? Originally built in the 1860s as a drinking water reservoir, the lake and surrounding park eventually fell upon hard times until a $45 million renovation revitalized this urban wetland to all its glory in 2013. Today, Echo Park Lake serves the community as a natural oasis amidst the sprawl of the city. Thankfully, the two compliment one another handsomely as evidenced by the magnificent view of the downtown skyline just south of the lake.

Now a recreational hub and a family-friendly destination boasting a bevy of beautiful lotus beds and a historic fountain (originally erected for the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics) that fires three jets of water several stories into the air, Wheel Fun Rentals took over the pedal boat rental space in 2018, introducing a fleet of swan-shaped pedal boats onto the water that have quickly become one of LA’s newest icons. They eventually added LED lights a year later to accommodate nighttime rides. I promise you can’t go wrong spending an hour of your time floating away on the waters of Echo Park Lake aboard a giant swan whether it’s day or night (I highly recommend that you give both a try). The experience is truly the stuff of dreams.
