Who knew that the brothers behind GUESS jeans would become such pivotal players in the Los Angeles art scene? Champions of contemporary art, Maurice and Paul Marciano founded the MAF in 2012 as a means of showcasing their own art collection along with work by other emerging and established artists. So profound was their desire to share this love of art with the world, the brothers also saw to it that visiting the foundation would be absolutely free of charge, proving that when a great cause meets noble intentions, everybody wins. In need of a venue, the foundation eventually found a home in an old Masonic Temple located on the western edge of Koreatown on Wilshire Boulevard. After spending several years repurposing this massive 100,000 square foot building into a gallery space that still honored its history, the MAF finally opened to the public in 2017 and we’ve been benefiting ever since. Like any museum, artwork rotates frequently so each visit brings the possibility of a new experience. Currently (as of this post), one of the featured exhibitions at the MAF is Yayoi Kusama’s With All My Love For The Tulips, I Pray Forever. A world-renowned multimedia artist, Kusama has already achieved iconic status in Los Angeles thanks to her Infinity Mirrors Room at The Broad and now brings her trademark polka dots to the MAF in a panoramic display of immersive art. But regardless of the exhibit, any time is a good time to visit the Marciano Art Foundation and you definitely can’t beat the price, so what are you waiting for?
