Located on the 94th Floor of the now generically named 875 N. Michigan Avenue Building (Chicagoans will forever know & call it the John Hancock Center), 360 Chicago Observation Deck soars over 1,000 feet into the air from street level, providing some of the most spectacular views of the city you’ll find without being in an airplane. Providing more floor space than the equally impressive Skydeck at Willis Tower (another building that Chicagoans will always know and refer to as the Sears Tower), the observation deck definitely feels “roomier” than its crosstown neighbor and offers views as far as 50 miles away across four states on a clear day.
In an effort to compete with the Skydeck’s glass-enclosed “Ledge”, TILT was installed in 2014, literally tilting 8 passengers at a time over Michigan Avenue at a 45 degree angle for a duration of 2-3 minutes. So I’m sure you’re wondering if the TILT experience is worth it. In it of itself, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it on its own and think it would benefit by tilting even further (I’m assuming safety regulations probably don’t permit this). But if you were already planning on checking out the observation deck (which I totally recommend) then it’s a worthwhile add-on. In fact, if you’re going to add Tilt, you might as well get the “all-access” package which gives you entry to Tilt and 1 free alcoholic drink or gelato from Bar 94 because everything goes better with a cocktail and it saves you a few bucks in the process.
And while you’re there, if time allows, you should head up two more floors and get drinks at the Signature Lounge (or dine at the Signature Room on the 95th floor). You won’t find a bar or restaurant in the city with a better view!
