Egyptian ruins or Chino Hills, California? Surprisingly it’s the latter! If you’ve ever driven the 71 freeway through San Bernardino County, you’ve probably seen this out-of place-peculiarity sitting in The Commons Shopping Center with the likes of BJ’s Brewhouse, Arby’s and a Hobby Lobby. Turns out this structure is actually a restaurant venture built to replicate the Egyptian Abu Simbel Temples that were carved into the mountains of the Nile River in 1244 B.C., and it does so in great detail! (the missing statue is meant to mimic the original temple’s deterioration). This re-creation wraps around the entire facade, depicting such ancient figures like Ramesses II, Queen Nefertari, and the goddess; Hathor. The sprawling restaurant (almost 6,000 square feet); Farou Food, was constructed in 2019 with plans to open in 2020…and then Covid hit. There’s been no word for a pushed opening, but with any luck, we’ll eventually get to see what the inside looks like as well.
