Every year, a bevy of wonderful Christmas displays can be found throughout the greater Los Angeles area that will definitely put you in the holiday spirit. From free neighborhood displays like Christmas Tree Lane (Altadena) to the Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights (Torrance) and paid events like the LA Zoo Lights (Griffith Park) and Holiday Road (Santa Monica Mountains), you can’t go wrong with any of these selections, but one of my personal favorites which I thoroughly recommend is “Lights on Display” in Sherman Oaks.

The 12 minute musical extravaganza (on continuous loop) almost makes you feel like you’re watching a show at Disneyland, complete with computer controlled animatronic characters timed to the music, a dazzling array of lights fitting of a rock concert, and even a snow machine that goes off during the grand finale! It’s no wonder that Lights on Display won ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” in 2015 as the best Christmas lights display in the country!

All of this is the brainchild of Mike Ziemkowski who’s first iteration of the Sherman Oaks display began in 1999 (continuing a family tradition that began in Indiana where he grew up). Lights on Display is ultimately a tribute to Mike’s parents and their Christmas legacy which left an indelible impression on Mike because of all the fond memories that their decorating tradition provided. In that regard, Mike is paying that Christmas spirit forward, gifting others with kindred memories after visiting Lights on Display!
