Longtime British multidisciplinary artist; Martin Creed, brings his irreverent artwork to Los Angeles in the form of - Work No. 2587 ‘Half the Air in a Given Space’ which is currently on display at Dries Van Noten just a few blocks away from the Beverly Center. Most famously known for Work 227: The Lights Going on and Off which won a Turner Prize (it’s literally just a room where the lights turn on and off), Creed’s art satirizes the mundanities of life with a touch of flair and borderline mockery, making the viewer wonder if what they’re witnessing is even art at all.
All of this is evident in Work No. 2587 ‘Half the Air in a Given Space’ which is quite simply a room filled with giant yellow balloons. Is this art? Who’s to say, but it’s certainly a spectacle to behold and you’ll find yourself filled with a little bit of whimsy as you traverse the room, dodging and playing with all the balloons as you do. In the end, anything that puts a smile on your face is always worth a visit.
