Having gone to college in Iowa, one would assume that I had plenty of chances to visit a farm. I even had a roommate my freshman year; Patrick Fitzpatrick (the alliteration is perfect), who grew up on a farm. He invited me back home with him plenty of times, but being a naive (and pompous) kid from Chicago who was a little too big for his britches, I always found an excuse to decline. It’s a lost opportunity that I’ve always regretted and it makes me want to build a time machine so I can slap my 18 year-old self for being so reluctant to try something new. So when the opportunity finally presented itself again all these years later, I wasn’t going to miss out.

Located in Temecula Valley amongst the rolling hills of Southern California’s wine country (which is an added bonus of visiting), Namaste Farms has been harvesting world-class wool since 2005. Husband and wife team; Natalie & Sean Redding, originally began the operation as a successful horse ranch in the 90s before transitioning into the farm that it is known as today. Because of this, the majority of the 5-acre farm is devoted to raising sheep of all breeds (Teeswater, Wensleydale, Gotlands, and Angora goats, just to name a few), but you’ll certainly find all your typical farm animals here as well; horses, cows, hogs, turkeys, peacocks, chicken, roosters, rabbits, dogs, cats, et all… many of which roam freely around you. After you check into 1 of the 4 unique accommodations at Namaste Farms, you’ll have free reign to explore most of the property (you can even go into the bird pen to feed grain to the assorted fowl there), and you’ll be allowed to interact with a selection of animals and observe the rest of the daily occurrences during your stay - it was so neat watching Natalie train her sheepdogs to shepherd the heard!

Make no mistake, this is a working farm! It’s not just for show and pictures. So if you have any aversion to farm smells and the cackle of various animals, you might want to think twice because the roosters will definitely wake you up at sunrise! But we considered this a perk of our stay and not a distraction. After all, the whole point was to unplug from the hustle & bustle of city life for a few days and reconnect with the simplicity and tranquilness of nature. So if you’re willing to get a little poop on the bottom of your shoes, I promise that your stay at Namaste Farms will be a one of a kind experience that will reward you with a lifetime of memories!

RENTAL OPTIONS AT NAMASTE FARMS

You can book 4 absolutely unique stays at Namaste Farms. We stayed in the converted “Hay Barn”. This rustic studio space can accommodate 2 people and the stain-glass window above the bed is an elegant touch. Sure it’s a converted barn, but it still has many of the amenities you’d find in most hotels: AC/heater unit, TV (smart TV capabilities only), WiFi, kitchenette with refrigerator cleverly hidden in the decorative armoire, and a fully functional toilet & shower (in case you were wondering how much you were going to have to “rough it”). I can’t speak for the rest of the rentals at Namaste Farms, but I do know that the Treehouse’s shower & toilet are detached from that particular unit which requires stepping outside to use its dedicated facilities, so just make sure you read the details for each rental before deciding which one to book.

In regards to the Hay Barn, this unit does NOT lock from the outside so it will be unprotected whenever you leave the property for any excursions (it DOES lock from the inside, however, when you’re going to sleep and such). This obviously made us a little wary in the beginning, but the owners reassured us that this has never been an issue and we experienced none ourselves, but just understand this situation ahead of time so that you don’t leave anything of value behind whenever you step away. I’m not sure this applies to all the rentals at Namaste Farms so make sure to read the details or contact the owner before booking. The property also has a gas fire pit available since every good night should end next to a fire! I’ve provided a few photos below of the Hay Barn and its interior.

Below is a brief overview of our stay at Namaste Farms since words alone can’t do it full justice.
