Polar Playground also serves ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes, floats, etc. Prices vary. But let’s be honest, you’re going to Polar Playground for one thing!
Time Commitment: 1 hour to 90 minutes.
It’s pretty amazing when you realize what cotton candy is: liquefied sugar that’s spun through a centrifuge until it’s reconstituted into billowing strands of sweetness. There’s something magical about this particular confection that puts a smile on every kid’s face. And for those of us who are older, it beckons fond memories from our youth as it stirs awake our inner-child no matter how grown-up we try to act when we pretend that we don’t want to indulge in any.
Polar Playground in Huntington Beach, cranks up the happiness to its very max, transforming this near-perfect candy into delightful works of art. Each day, the shop features its character options on a dry-erase board outside the entrance. Ranging from iconic figures like Winnie the Pooh to Sully from Monsters Inc. to Pikachu from Pokemon, the list is pretty extensive (I opted for Eeyore!). And I promise that you’ll ooh & aah as you watch each one brought to life… before eventually devouring it.
A quick word of advice. Try to arrive before the shop opens so that you encounter the shortest line possible because there WILL be a line. We arrived just after 1PM (which is when the shop opens) and still had to wait an hour for our turn. Once you’re inside (your shuttled-in roughly 10 people at a time) it’ll take approximately 30 minutes to receive your cotton candy character. And they start melting/shrinking pretty quickly so you’ll want to started eating them shortly there after.
