There may not be a more unique mashup in all of Los Angeles than The Joint Seafood And Coffee. Located in Sherman Oaks, this establishment is part coffee house and part fish market. That’s not a misprint, so if you’re ever in need of some coffee with your freshly imported tuna or dry-aged salmon, this is the place for you! And while I can’t speak to their coffee (I’ll have to give it a try next time), I can tell you that their fish inventory is as good as any location in the city.

If you couldn’t already tell, The Joint prides itself on innovation, and continuously strives to introduce its seafood to the neighborhood in accessible and delicious ways. We first discovered The Joint via its oyster shucking class and returned this time for its hand-roll bento box for 2 offering. Is it expensive? Yes! At $80 plus tax, it’ll put a small dent in your wallet for sure. But you get what you pay for, and in this case, that means some of the freshest, buttery cuts of fish that you’ll ever put in your mouth. Chef Nobu Matsuhisa would be proud!

Now if you’ve never built your own hand-roll before (like us), it’ll be a little intimidating at first. But I promise that you can’t go wrong with any combination you put together. So make it a special occasion and have some fun with it because The Joint’s hand-roll bento box will provide you with one of the more imaginative dining experiences that you’ll ever have, and you might even consider ordering another one post-haste!
