It’s hard not taking advantage of the water anytime you find yourself along the coast in Los Angeles. One of the more unique and affordable ways to do so in the summer months is by utilizing the Marina Del Rey WaterBus system. These large pontoon-style boats (with covering) are a popular and convenient mode of transportation that operates along 8 stops throughout the marina, providing locals and tourists alike with an enjoyable and stress-free way to get around the marina.
The water bus provides a refreshing escape from traditional land-based transportation, allowing passengers to savor the ocean breeze and calming waves. While technically a shuttle service meant to traverse the marina quickly, I would say most visitors partake as a leisurely way to tour the marina. There isn’t technically a schedule for when a given water bus will reach each stop, but during our excursion, there were enough boats in service that we never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes for the next water bus to arrive.
Each stop offers its own particular attraction whether it’s restaurants, bars, parks, and even a beach! But most people seem to depart from Fisherman’s Village; a kitschy collection of colorful restaurants and shops that serves as the flagship departure point. But no matter which stop you choose, I recommend picking a few places to eat/drink at, and making it a fun afternoon or evening on the water!
